Project Overview

Ski Butlers is a full service ski and snowboard equipment rental company serving resorts and locations globally. Their business operates on seamless service of this equipment direct to the customer’s or by on-site resort rental. Our relationship began with Ski Butlers on a request to develop an app for use by technicians to manage daily tasks and track equipment delivery lifecycles. Their existing administrative software was not mobile friendly, so this allowed for a new streamlined connection between headquarters and field operators.

After the app launch, we continue to maintain and update their existing administrative platform, running UX & UI analysis’ and updating functionality according to business needs.

Ski Butlers Technician Tablet App

Reservation Management

  • Create new reservations using new or existing customer profile information.

  • Modify and view existing reservations.

  • Sync with backend’s customizable restrictions for dates, locations, and equipment.

Equipment Delivery Workflow

  • Scan gear’s QR codes to assign the appropriate rented equipment per delivery.

  • Integration with Google Maps to allow for turn-by-turn directions to delivery & pickup addresses.

  • Size and fit gear to each renter at delivery, allow for item swaps to be created.

  • Provide the appropriate billing options for groups and tips.

  • Billing and payment integration with Stripe.

  • When customers are finished with their gear, pickup equipment and validate items are not missing.

Retail Checkout Orders

  • Provide an item purchasing process for tech’s to sell gear.

  • Billing and payment check-out process integration with Stripe.

Site Map

We approached the site map with a focus on where the technicians will be physically located at each step of the reservation process. This is an on-the-go company, so the technology is expected to be picked up at any step during a delivery and sync for last minute schedule changes.

Functionality from the existing admin site was analyzed and used to create the tablet app’s workflows. This helped us get a sense of what the technicians were familiar with and update where necessary.

Wireframes

A blend of Material UI kit and custom components were used for this app to keep style familiar between all company sites. The wireframes started in a greyscale version with hi-fidelity components. Our team worked through numerous UX challenges when bringing a desktop experience to a mobile tablet device. We communicated directly with the technicians to understand what is happening in the field as they work directly with customers.

Final Designs

The app’s final designs stayed consistent to the brand guidelines provided by Ski Butlers. Application of color and typography variations helped bring the screens to life.

Throughout the design process, we aligned reservation status colors to the administrator platform, these visual cues help the technicians make quick connections to their tasks. We expanded on the brand’s existing iconography, keeping the line weight and color recommendations exact, so all products have the same recognizable visuals.

Functional specifications were created for the app and is continuously used to enhance the product for ongoing business needs.
